WIVELISCOMBE have retained their title in Division One of the West Somerset Cricket League.

They took maximum points in their last match of the season over the weekend by beating fourth-placed Roadwater and so finished two points clear of championship rivals Stogumber who also won their final game - by 15 runs against Over Stowey who are relegated.

Fireman Gareth Bellamy top scored with 88 as Wivey scored 204-8 against Roadwater who were bowled out for 143.

Stogumber could not have done any more in their match against bottom side Over Stowey, also gaining maximum points in a 25-run victory.

The only other match played in the division ended in a four-wicket win for Sampford Arundel against West Monkton.

In Division Two second-placed Ashbrittle were involved in a low scoring game against Timberscombe, eventually winning by 12 runs. They are assured of promotion along with Crowcombe.

There was a disappointing end to the season for Hemyock who had to forfeit the points against Stoke St Mary because they could not raise a side.

Cutcombe took maximum points after beating Winsford by six wickets, their opponents being bowled out for 70.

Division Four champions North Curry ended the season unbeaten after they chalked up a six-wicket success against Roadwater.

Stoke Saints beat Ashbrittle by a massive 235 runs to gain promotion along with East Huntspill.
