WELLINGTON will be looking to bounce back after their defeat at Buckland when they play at home to Millbrook in the Premier Division of the Toolstation League on Monday (note 1p.m. kick-off).
Wellington’s joint manager Alex Pope admitted they were a ‘little rusty’ in their 3-2 loss at Buckland on Boxing Day. “It was almost as though the lads had forgotten how good they can be,” he said.
“Others are saying we don’t look like a bottom of the table side, but the lads don’t seem to believe this. They have to have more belief in themselves.”
Wellington should be able to field a near full-strength side although Miles Quick will be missing after being sent off late in the game at Buckland.
Wellington are second from bottom after playing 16 games - far fewer than the teams around them. If they can win these matches in hand they could easily move up to a healthy mid-table spot.
Millbrook, who are lying 12th in the table, were held to a goalless home draw by Torpoint Athletic on Boxing Day.
At the other end of the table, Saltash United have a one-point lead at the top over second-placed Bridgwater United who have two crucial games in hand.
Wellington Reserves, fifth in Division One of the Devon & Exeter League, are without a game until they play at home to unbeaten leaders Upottery tomorrow week (Jan 7).
Hemyock, top of Division Three, play at home to second-placed Seaton Town who are five points adrift with two matches in hand.
There are no matches in the Taunton Saturday, Somerset Sunday and Taunton Youth Leagues this weekend.
They all return the following weekend.
