BELL Green maintained their grip on top spot in Wellington Ex-Services Skittles League’s Gerald Thorne Championship with a win over Report Centre A while Ex-Servicemen made it 11 wins out of 11 with victory over Foresters in the Chris Bullock Championship.
Scores, Gerald Thorne Championship, Bell Green 371, Report Centre A 328: The leaders won their tenth game of the season with a 43-pin success over Report Centre A with Simon Rudd leading the way with 54, while Derek Parsons knocked 55 for the losers.
Rebels 353, Cottage Pies 369: Pies took the bragging rights at the Cottage with a 16-pin victory to keep the pressure on Bell Green. Baz Winter scored 54 for the Rebels while Jordan Perry steered Pies to victory with 53.
Relyon 365, Fireguard A 311: Relyon chalked up their fifth successive victory with a 54-pin win at the Conservative Club with Jason Hayes hitting 52 for the Bedders. Will Leak knocked 47 for Fireguard.
Holywell Lake 403, Oaks 395: Holywell Lake bounced back from their narrow defeat of the previous week with victory in a high-scoring game against Oaks at the Vic with Scott Newberry hitting a fantastic 61 for the Lakers. Steven Burge scored 56 for Oaks.
Club Rockers 331, Shooters 354: Former Wellington footballer Keith Harcombe scored 51 for Shooters who won by 23 pins at the Institute, while Chris Milton hit 51 for the Rockers.
Queens Legs 403, OBA 388: Queens Legs came out on top of a high-scoring clash against OBA on the upstairs alley of the Conservative Club with home captain Daren Mason hitting a great 59. Denver Clarke was OBA’s top skittler with 57.
Home Guard II 346, Hot Shots 312: Home Guard II moved up to eighth after beating Hot Shots at the Football Club. Macca Campbell scored 49 for the home side while Robin Marke knocked 43 for Hot Shots.
Chris Bullock Championship, Foresters 417, Ex-Servicemen 432: Foresters hit their highest score of the season but it was not enough to halt the leaders whose leading skittler was Ryan Richards with a splendid 63. Steve Wadham and Aron Lockyer scored 61s for Foresters.
WRFC 329, Mowers 359: Mowers bounced back from their derby loss with a strong 30-pin win over the rugby boys whose top player was Dave Huggett with 51. Steve Foster knocked 51 for Mowers.
All Stars 387, Nynehead Club 383: All Stars closed out their year with a good win by only four pins against Nynehead Club at the Vic. All Stars’ captain Jamie Milton was the star player of the match with a great 59 while Malcolm Turner hit 55 for the Club.
Scuppas 362, United Services 368: Only six pins separated these sides at the Cottage. Craig Newstead played well for Scuppas with a good 53 while Kev Austin’s 55 proved crucial in the Services coming out on top of a thrilling match.
King Pins 384, Outsiders 327: King Pins moved to joint fourth in the table with a comprehensive 57-pin victory over Outsiders at the Football Club. John Norman scored 59 for the Pins while Ron Smith hit 53 for the losers.
Home Guard IV 376, Odds & Ends 375: Home Guard IV came out on top by one pin in a thrilling game at the Conservative Club with Mal Passmore (56) being the matchwinner. Dan Smith scored 52 for Odds & Ends.
