CLEVEDON TOWN 2

WELLINGTON 0

WELLINGTON play away to title favourites Plymouth Parkway tomorrow (Saturday) on the back of a narrow defeat at Clevedon in the Premier Division of the Toolstation League on Wednesday night.

Wellington were in with a chance of at least picking up a point until Clevedon dashed their hopes with a goal late in the match.

There was not a lot to choose between the sides in the first half with Wellington involved in a splendid move in the 21st minute, which ended with Clevedon goalkeeper Harley Wilkinson smothering the ball at the feet of the previous game’s two-goal match-winner Ollie Holman.

Wellington keeper Tom Welch made a smart save not long before Clevedon broke the deadlock in the 34th minute. Welch pushed a header by Glen Hayer into the air but it rolled back over the goal-line.

Much of the action in the second half was on the Wellington substitutes’ bench with George Sinnott replacing debutant Dan Williams for the last 45 minutes, and Cameron Sanford and Rohan Poulsom taking over from Scott Merritt and Jesse Howe as the game started drifting away from the visitors.

However, Wellington were still in the match but their hopes of salvaging a point were shattered when substitute Ethan Feltham scored in the 88th minute with a shot which went in off a post.

Wellington: Tom Welch, Josh Champion, Tim Legg, Tom Davies, Jason Quick, Miles Quick, Scott Merritt (Cameron Sanford 75 minutes), Glen Wright (capt), Jesse Howe (Rohan Poulsom 75), Dan Williams (George Sinnott 45), Ollie Norman. Substitutes not used: Jack Lewis, Wesley Poulsom.

PLYMOUTH Parkway go into tomorrow’s game against Wellington top of the table and chasing the season’s double over their opponents, having dropped only two points in ten games. Wellington are also home to Tavistock next Wednesday (7.45pm).

WELLINGTON Reserves’ 100 per cent record will be at stake when they play at home to Alphington’s third string in Division One West of the Devon and Exeter League tomorrow (3pm).

Wellington A will be looking to bounce back after their rout by leaders Westonzoyland last weekend when they play away to Fivehead Rovers in the first division of the Britannia Lanes Taunton Saturday League.
