WELLINGTON AFC Wanderers Under 11s demonstrated against their Wembdon counterparts that victory in youth football is not always measured by the scoreline, but by the courage and commitment shown on the pitch by the players.

Before a ball was even kicked in their match against Wembdon, the Wanderers had already chalked up a victory in spirit. Arriving with just nine players, including two who were unwell and several more under the weather, the team’s determination to stand together epitomised what team sport is truly all about.

From the first whistle, the Wanderers embodied resilience. Every player dug deep, showing that being present for one another matters more than numbers or conditions. Their willingness to support each other, even when not at full strength, was a powerful reminder of the values of teamwork and solidarity.

Despite the challenges, Wellington produced some great footballing moments. Their composure when playing out from the back was particularly impressive, with defenders and midfielders linking calmly under pressure to build attacks and create scoring opportunities. These passages of play highlighted not only technical ability but also the confidence to trust teammates and stick to their principles.

There were flashes of creativity going forward, moments of bravery in defence, and a collective spirit that never wavered. Every tackle, pass, and run carried the weight of shared responsibility, and the Wanderers can be proud of how they represented themselves and their club.

A special mention goes to Roadchef, who sponsor the team’s shirts each week, and R&M Motor, who sponspor the match balls. Their backing ensures the players can continue to enjoy and grow through the game they love.

The aim, of course, is for these youngsters to go on and eventually play senior football - hopefully for the senior club.
