WELLINGTON Colts produced a remarkable fightback to overturn a 24–0 deficit against North Petherton.
Facing a side that had lost only three league games all season, Wellington made a shaky start, struggling with handling errors and conceding a stream of penalties. With the wind at their backs, Petherton repeatedly kicked deep into Wellington territory and capitalised with four well‑worked tries. After 20 minutes, Wellington trailed 24–0, the penalty count standing at 7–0, but they knew that cutting out mistakes would give them a chance.
Olly Owen, scorer in each of his first two games, sparked the revival. Finishing a strong break from Jonah Richardson, he touched down for Wellington’s first try, converted by Brock Vallance to make it 7–24.
Wellington applied pressure for the remainder of the half but couldn’t quite find another score before the break.
Seventeen points down at halftime, Wellington faced a huge task. What followed was their best spell of rugby this season. Petherton were pinned in their own half, and whenever they cleared, Wellington countered with purpose. Owen chased a kick down the wing, gathered a favourable bounce, and scored under the posts.
Minutes later he completed his hat‑trick with another burst of pace. Richardson then powered through the middle, stretching out to score. Vallance converted all three tries, giving Wellington a 28–24 lead and completing an extraordinary turnaround. Owen then added a fourth, weaving across the pitch and beating multiple defenders. The missed conversion didn’t matter—Wellington had sealed a famous win.
All 23 players contributed to a superb team performance. Richardson was influential, Jacob Allder impressed with lineout steals and strong carries, Will Barnes delivered his best game of the season, and Joe Reid stood out. But man of the match went to Ollie Owen for four outstanding tries and relentless work in attack and defence.
