PLAYING only their second match since late November, Wellington United shone away to Sydenham Rangers, gaining a brilliant 11-2 victory in Division Three of the Under 13 section in the Taunton Youth League.

Starting a little sluggish, United found themselves a goal down early on. With this a stark reminder never to be complacent, the boys upped their game, holding positions and playing some lovely attacking football.

Hard work in the final third of the pitch started to pay off with the home team levelling up with an own goal as the Wellington boys applied the pressure. The visitors kept up the momentum and scored another two in the first half, going off at the break with a 3-1 lead.

In the second half the visitors seemed to find another gear with some great attacking football and with some impressive use of their passing skills the goals started to come in quick succession.

The home team, ever a threat, found the back of the net again but their momentum was short lived as the visitors proved a little to strong for them and the goals kept coming - all created with the boys making good space in the final third and making some vital passes which all ended up paying off.

The game ended with the Utd boys winning by an impressive margin, all in all, a great performance. Goal scorers were: Angus D x 4, Blake M x 2, Harry N x 1, Zach W x 1, Jimmy B x 1, Jack F x 1

Manager Steve Newstead said: “Once again the boys put together an impressive display which proves what they can achieve when they work together as a team”.

Coach Richard Upham said “Another game to be proud of; we’ve scored 23 goals in our last two games. Once again thank-you to our kit sponsor The Gutter doctor.”
