WELLINGTON’S player-manager Tim Legg admits scoring goals has become a ‘massive problem’ for his side in the Premier Division of the Toolstation League, writes Barry Knott.

“Our overall performance against Cribbs (lost 2-1) last Saturday was much improved compared to the previous week against Tavistock when we did not turn up for the second half,” he said.

“Once we had equalised against Cribbs we needed to push on. We had plenty of the ball but couldn’t score. We should have put away the opportunities which came our way.

“We need a 20-30 goal a season striker but we haven’t got one and I can’t see us getting one, although it’s not for the want of trying. We have not got a Jack Taylor (pictured right).

“We have played four of the top sides in our division in the last few weeks. We haven’t done too badly and we could have sneaked a win at Plymouth Parkway. We’re also paying the penalty for conceding late goals - we’ve done this in the last three matches.”

Legg, who has left himself out of the last two games, added: “I thought we deserved to win against Cribbs whereas I didn’t think we deserved to win against Tavistock.”

Meanwhile, Jack Porter has now made himself available on a regular basis and Legg expects one or two injured players to be back for tomorrow’s tough away game against Exmouth Town.

The Seasiders are lying eighth in the table but have games in hand on six of the sides above them.

“It is going to be another tough game,” said Legg. “We’re playing better but we’re not getting the results.”

WELLINGTON Reserves, who have won their opening six matches and top Division One West of the Devon and Exeter League, are home to Uplowman tomorrow (kick-off 2.30pm). Their opponents are ninth in the table, having won two and lost three of their five league games.

Wellington A, who are finding life in Division One of the Britannia Lanes Taunton Saturday League much tougher this season, are away tomorrow against North Curry who are just above them in the division.

WELLINGTON Under 18s will be looking for their first victory of the season when they play at home to Shaftsbury Town in the Western Counties Floodlit Youth League on Tuesday (7.30pm).
