WELLINGTON Town travelled to Bridgwater Wolves this past Sunday in a first round of the Taunton and District Youth League’s Under 15 Cup - and were very unlucky to lose 1-0

Both sides - who saw out a 2-2 draw on the opening day of the season - looked threatening in the early stages of the match, with Town particularly dangerous on the counter-attack. But it was Wolves who seized the early initiative; a looping strike from the edge of the area beating Welly's George B in goal to take the lead on 10 minutes.

A goal down, Welly responded in positive fashion - Fletcher L forcing two saves in quick succession before winger Reece B was denied on the 25 minute mark. The momentum now in their favour, Town looked a certainty to grab a first half equaliser. But after Jack B was denied from range, and another effort scrambled off the Wolves' line, it was looking like it was going to be one of those frustrating afternoons for the visitors.

Welly started the second half as they finished the first, Fletcher L again going close inside 5 second half minutes, before Wolves had the chance to double their lead on the 50 minute mark - a strike inside the area soaring narrowly over the crossbar with just their second meaningful threat on goal.

Wolves then found themselves down to 10 players on 68 minutes, a second yellow for the Bridgwater striker as the hosts' discipline waned. Town, sensing their opportunity, began creating chances at will. But after Seb N's sweetly struck the right hand upright inside the final 10 minutes, it just wasn't going to be Welly's day. In the end, it was a hugely frustrating 1-0 defeat for the visitors in a match that they dominated for large periods.
