WELLINGTON AFC’s chairman Mike Hall has stressed the importance of a good FA Vase run ahead of today’s second round proper tie at home to Christchurch (3pm).

“It is good for the club in terms of profile,” he said. “It boosts confidence if we can put a good cup run together. And the prizemoney (£900) comes in handy after what has been a particularly difficult time for all clubs.”

Wellington go into tomorrow’s tie on the back of a 1-1 away draw to mid-table Shepton Mallet in the Premier Division of the Toolstation League last Saturday. Wellington are now 13th in the table, up one from the previous week.

Their squad tomorrow will be boosted by the return of skipper Glen Wright who has completed a three-match ban.

Christchurch are struggling near the foot of the Premier Division of the Wessex with only two wins in games and on current form it means Wellington have a very good chance of reaching the third round of the competition which will become very interesting. Tomorrow’s tie is sponsored by Tonegate Motors of Wellington.

Wellington Reserves, who lost 2-1 at home to leaders Crediton United last Saturday despite deservedly leading 1-0 at half-time, are away to Bow Amateur Athletic in Division One of the Devon and Exeter League.

“I’m afraid we dropped our heads when they equalised early in the second half,” said Reserves’ manager Steve Trevelyan. “We were certainly the better side in the first half.”

The Reserves will be without skipper Mark Owen, who is suspended following five bookings, while Olly Nott is unavailable.

Wellington are third in the table and Bow are one place below them.

Wellington A are away to fourth-placed Westonzoyland in the first division of the Britannia Lanes Taunton Saturday League.
