WELLINGTON have a great chance to end their poor run of results when they play three successive home games against teams in the lower half of the Premier Division in the Toolstation League.
They kick off with a match against Keynsham Town (13th place) tonight (Feb 26, 7.45) and have a game against Roman Glass St George (14th) on Saturday. The following Saturday they meet Brislington, in 15th spot, and will be chasing the season’s double over their opponents, having beaten them 3-0 away.
Josh Wadham, who has been playing for Cullompton Rangers who are now managed by ex-Wellington boss Clive Jones, played for Wellington on Saturday and could be in the side tonight.
“Josh asked me if it would be alright to play for Wellington on Saturday to earn a few bob,” said Jones. “I don’t mind my players playing for other sides if we don’t have a game. But it’s a different kettle of fish if we have a match. We must wait and see.”
Wellington are still in the same position in the league after losing 2-0 at Exmouth on Saturday. They are second from bottom with only Odd Down below them, two points adrift but with two matches in hand. The four sides immediately above them have also played fewer games which means Wellington are in serious danger of being relegated.
Meanwhile Wellington Reserves, whose match at home to Winchester in Division One of the Devon and Exeter League on Saturday was postponed because of the bad weather, hope to get back into action with an away game against title-chasing Thorverton.
Hemyock, who were also foiled again by the weather on Saturday, are home to top of the table North Tawton in Division Three.
Wellington A continue their bid for promotion in Division Two of the Taunton Saturday League, with a home game against Middlezoy Rovers Athletic. Wellington have a four-point lead at the top of the table but have played two more games than nearest rivals Bridgwater Sports.
