WELLINGTON start the new football season with eight successive away games in Division One of the Toolstation League.

They cannot play on their ground at the Playing Field because it is being used by the local cricket club.

Their first home game is against Bishop Sutton in the FA Vase on Saturday, September 10 (3.00).

“I knew this was coming,” said Wellington manager Clive Jones yesterday. “It is a challenge but it will need a lot of hard work.

“I also have one or two players away on holiday in August so it won’t help.

“I have been pleased with the way training has gone. Now it is a question as to who wants to make the lst XI shirt their own.”

Ironically, Wellington’s opening game in the league is also against Bishop Sutton, managed by Wellington’s ex-boss Colin Merrick, away on Saturday, August 6.

They follow this with a game at Wincanton on the Tuesday and a visit to Calne on the Saturday, Saturday, August 13.

Their season ends with an away game against Radstock Town on Saturday, April 29, 2017.

Wellington were due to play their first pre-season friendly at Crediton last night.

WELLINGTON’S former goalkeeper Jake Viney will miss the start of the season after being injured while playing for Bridgwater Town in a friendly at home to Tavistock on Friday night.

He collided with Tavistock’s hat-trick star Lewis Coombes who broke his leg.

Viney also had x-rays in hospital which revealed no break but he will be out of action for some time.

Tavistock won 4-2.
