WELLINGTON’S soccer boss Clive Jones has ended his summer search for a new goalkeeper, writes Barry Knott.

He has signed Connor Sidley-Adams who has played Southern League football for Taunton Town. He was never a regular for Taunton but had some outstanding games when called upon.

“I have had some splendid reports about Connor and it has solved a big problem for me,” said Jones last night.

“Both Ian Nott and Paul Edwards, who are both experienced Southern League goalkeepers, have offered to help him during training. He’s going to get the best advice.”

Jones has signed Sidley-Adams because last season’s keeper Mitch Woodgate wants to play out on the field this season. But he will play in goal if required.

A double-booking has meant that Wellington’s opening pre-season game at Crediton will now be played next Tuesday, July 26.

Jones begins his second full season at Wellington in charge and says that Ian Nott will be committing himself to the club from mid-September.

“At the moment he’s got a few things on his plate – he’s just changed jobs,” added Jones.

Wellington go into the new season with a first team squad which looks much stronger than last winter.

The signing of Sidley-Adams, who has played for Wellington before, virtually completes the pre-season puzzle for Jones.

It is not easy these days to find good goalkeepers but Sidley-Adams has already shown his talent in training.

Jones now has a strong squad of players and his main concern is to get through the pre-season programme of matches without any injuries.

n Wellington have been drawn at home to league rivals Cheddar in the first round of the Somerset Premier Cup.

New Toolstation League outfit Bishops Lydeard have also been drawn at home – to Evo-Stik Southern League Paulton Rovers.

Ties to be played week commencing September 26.
