WELLINGTON’S football manager Clive Jones has admitted he offered to resign after Saturday’s 3-1 loss away to Odd Down in the Premier Division of the Toolstation League.

Defeat left them bottom of the table and Jones told me: “I spoke to the chairman (Mike Hall) about my future with the club. I offered to resign if the club wanted me to.

“He asked me whether I wanted to resign and I said ‘No.’ I have never quit at a football club and I don’t intend to now.

“At the moment I don’t feel I am getting the best out of the players. They are making mistakes and so am I.”

Jones revealed he has put in seven days notice of approach for two players who are both with other Toolstation League clubs, one is a centre back and the other a forward.

“We created so many chances at Odd Down,” added Jones. “I am after players who will improve the side. I feel we should have won our last two matches, but it’s just not happening at the moment.”
