NICK Buttle takes charge of Bishop Lydeard’s side at home to Corsham Town in the first division of the Toolstation League tomorrow (Saturday), less than two weeks after being appointed manager.

Buttle, 53, has taken over following Olly Feltham’s surprise decision to step down for personal reasons, having only being appointed five weeks earlier.

Buttle played youth football for all age groups for Wellington, mainly managed by club stalwart Colin Waller.

He moved on to men’s football before a few seasons dabbling with the egg-shaped ball for the town’s rugby club and returning to football with Sampford Blues, which became a staple diet for many years as player then manager.

The club dissolved in 2015 and he has have been managing Bishops Lydeard Reserves since with the aim of achieving county football by building a youthful side for players to progress into the first team, which he has achieved.

Buttle’s assistant will be James Clapperton (Clappy) and they will work with existing head coach Kevin Hazeldine with the aim being to bring stability at a time the first team is in a period of player transition.

Buttle said: “We are all looking forward to the challenge the next level will bring, with our emphasis on key basics such as planning, preparation and communication to meet on and off match day objectives.

“Looking back I feel I have always been involved in football, listening and learning best practices along the way with many influential people, none more than my dad, Andy Buttle, whom I spent my childhood on many a Sunday morning with the then Rockwell Green men’s teams he organised and managed.”
