NICK Robins will be stepping down as secretary of Wellington Rugby Club at the annual meeting on Friday, July 29 (7.30).
Or at least that’s the intention. “At the moment they haven’t found anyone to replace me,” said Nick, who is now 64 and is in his second spell as secretary.
In total Nick has been secretary for 16 years and feels now is the right time to step down.
“My intention was to retire as secretary and perhaps help the new person by becoming assistant secretary,” added Nick who first played for the club in the second row in 1978. His rugby career with the 2nds and 3rds was eventually cut short by a bad ankle injury – fracture and dislocation – eight years later.
One of his numerous jobs has been to report on the club’s senior side for newspapers.
Also leaving as treasurer at the annual meeting is Matt Colman who has been in the job for 16 years. He is looking for a ‘break from rugby but will remain on the club’s committee.
