WELLINGTON’S rugby skipper and No8 Micky Norman will be back leading the side in the away game at Burnham on Sea in Western Counties North on Saturday.

Norman missed Wellington’s hard-earned 19-15 home win over bottom side Gordano over the weekend with concussion.

“Micky picked up a head injury in the match against Matson last week and we left him out as a precaution,” said Wellington’s head player-coach Matt Parsons.

“Gordano had a decent front row and I think the conditions suited them.

“I think the boys did well – we’ve got several lads from our Under 18s of last season in the side and they’re still learning.

“There was a lot of pressure on us to win because they are bottom of the table. We knew we had to win this game and this can produce negative play.

“They certainly did not look a bottom of the table side.”

Wellington trailed 15-6 at one stage in the second half but looked the fitter side towards the end.

“They began to tire in the conditions and we took full advantage,” added Parsons who scored a second half try and kicked three penalties.

Wiveliscombe, who found themselves without a game over the weekend when their home match against Old Redcliffians 2nd XV was postponed because of the wet conditions, are scheduled to play another game at The Rec – against Tor in Somerset Premier.

Wellington 2nd XV, who lost 17-0 away to Bristol Barbarians who have moved up to third in Somerset One, are home to 100 per cent leaders Bridgwater 2nd XV.

Wiveliscombe 2nd XV are also home – to Winscombe 2nds in Somerset Two South – while Wellington 3rd XV have an away fixture at Chard but have only fulfilled one of their fixtures this season.

“We would like to keep the 3rds going but it has proved difficult so far,” said Wellington’s president Greg Dyke.
