ALEX Sparks, Wellington’s leading batsman last season, has been chosen for a fourth stint as captain of the lst XI.

The 27-year-old Sparks, who bats at No 3 or 4, said yesterday: “Last season was a transitional season for us and not easy.

“It was always going to be tough because we had some young players in the side.

“It was important to maintain our status in the league (West of England Somerset Division). We did this and hopefully the younger players will be a season wiser.

“ We were not sure last season what to expect because of the restructuring. We have a better idea going into this season.

 “We have a good group of lads who enjoy playing together.”

Wellington begin pre-season training at Court Fields School on Wednesday, February 15 (between 7.30 and 9.00).
