THE bad weather - heavy rain and gales - caused havoc with local outdoor sport over the weekend with rugby and football matches being called off.
Wellington’s big rugby clash at home to Western Counties West rivals St Austell was a victim. The club made two inspections before a decision was made late morning to avoid the Cornish side making a fruitless journey.
Wellington’s 2nd XV’s away game against North Petherton in Somerset One did go ahead with the Black & Reds winning 36-5 to move up to second in the table.
Wiveliscombe’s fixture against Tiverton at The Rec - also in Western Counties West - was postponed at a similar time on Saturday and rearranged for this coming Saturday. But this match has again been called off.
Wiveliscombe’s former skipper John Ker is still suffering from concussion, having played only one match this season. Wiveliscombe also have another couple of doubts over the fitness of players.
Wellington’s football match at the Playing Field against Street in the Premier Division of the Toolstation League was also postponed because of the state of the pitch.
It would have been only the second match in charge for new manager Tim Legg who has been replacing some of the lads who have left recently following the departure of Clive Jones.
Wellington Reserves’ away game against Winchester in the first division of the Devon and Exeter League was also postponed.
