WELLINGTON Cricket Club has confirmed it pre-season fixture plans for 2017 and it feels that it has something for everyone who is getting ready in earnest for the new campaign with the Red and Blacks, writes David Derrick.

Following seven weeks of indoor practice it will be time to head outside for training in the week beginning Monday, April 10, and this week will end with the long Easter holiday weekend and the opening games.

On Saturday, April 15, a visit to West Somerset League Division Three club North Curry CC will be undertaken to start everything off with the following day seeing the first game that will be played by new or at least newly named club Yeovil CC taking place; Yeovil CC, the new name for Westlands CC, play in the Premier Division of the Somerset League and will be unveiling their new changing and social facilities for this game.

On Saturday, April 22, a visit to West of England Premier League Premier Two (Bristol and Somerset) club Taunton CC will take place with a visit to Weston Super Mare CC set for the next day when their 3rd XI, from Division Six North of the Somerset League, will be the opposition.

A chance to play at home comes along on Saturday, April 29, when Minehead CC will be coming to Wellington Playing Field; the Seasiders will make three such visits this coming season with this first one taking the place of original opponents Ashbrittle CC, from the Somerset League Premier Division, who have an early start to their competitive season and have had to prioritise that which is totally understood – thanks go to Minehead CC for stepping in.

A match at Devon Premier League side Sidmouth CC, on Sunday, April 30, continues matters ahead of the club’s opening competitive senior match of 2017 which is at Wellington Playing Field on Monday, May 1, which is the May Day Bank Holiday Monday, when the 3rd XI hosts Crewkerne 2nd XI in Division Seven South of the Somerset League, with both teams having earned promotion based on their 2016 performances.
