WELLINGTON Wanderers Under 11s made the short trip to Taunton to face Tone Youth in testing wet and blustery conditions. Despite the challenging weather, the young Wanderers settled quickly into the game, setting a sharp tempo from the first whistle and moving the ball around with confidence.
Their early composure allowed them to dictate the rhythm of play, with crisp passing and intelligent movement keeping Tone pinned back for long spells. Throughout much of the match, Wellington controlled possession and territory, showing good decision-making and teamwork. The midfield worked tirelessly to recycle the ball and maintain pressure, while the forwards looked lively, constantly probing for openings.
Tone Youth, however, remained dangerous on the counterattack, particularly when Wanderers momentarily lost their team shape. On those occasions, the hosts broke forward with pace and threatened to turn the tide.
Fortunately, Wellington had Tom K in goal, who produced a commanding performance between the posts. His excellent positioning and calm presence thwarted several Tone chances, including a couple of well-struck efforts that he dealt with superbly. His saves ensured Wanderers maintained their grip on the game and provided a solid platform for the team to build from.
As the final whistle blew, Wellington could reflect on a strong performance in difficult conditions. The team’s resilience, discipline, and ability to control the game for long periods will serve them well as they head into the coming weekend’s cup fixture away to Huish Tigers Oranges (10.30 a.m.). Confidence is high, and the squad is hopeful of embarking on a successful cup run.
A huge thank you goes to the parents for their positive support throughout the match, setting an excellent example of how to encourage from the sidelines. The club also extends its gratitude to our shirt sponsor, Roadchef, and ball sponsor, R&M Motors, whose backing continues to make a real difference.
