WELLINGTON’S soccer boss Clive Jones is cracking down on ill-discipline following six red cards for his side this season.

“It is not good enough,” said Jones who took charge of the side last summer.

“It is my job to maintain discipline and I take full responsibility,” added Jones. “It is not fair on the rest of the side when you have a player sent off.

“We have to do better than this. We have nine matches left in which to improve.”

Wellington are experiencing their leanest spell since the start of the season when they had to play a number of away games because the Playing Field was being used by the local cricket club.

“We’re a bit thin on the ground because of injuries and suspensions,” said Jones. “But I can’t go out and sign new players so now is the time to take a look at players within the club and, hopefully, they will show what they can do.”

Meanwhile, Wellington will be without goalkeeper Mitch Woodgate for tonight’s (Mar 23) home game against Almondsbury UWE in the first division of the Toolstation League (7.30).

Woodgate has a one-match ban for being sent off in the home game against Ashton earlier this month. He also faces another suspension after receiving another red in the very next game against Warminster Town.

However, Jones has nothing but praise for Woodgate and his performances in goal since going between the sticks at the beginning of the season.

“He has done a great job for us and I have no worries about playing him,” said Jones who is looking to sign a new goalkeeper in time for tonight’s game.

The Wellington boss plans to keep the new goalkeeper in the first team for the rest of the season and to use Woodgate as an outfield player when he is available to play.

Jack Bryant will be working away and will also miss tonight’s game but brother and skipper Sam Bryant returns after completing a one-match ban.

Wellington have no match on Saturday but play Chard Town - again at home - on Easter Monday (3.00).

Wellington Reserves, without a game over the weekend, play at home to top of the table Exmouth Amateurs in Division One of the Devon and Exeter League on Good Friday (3.00) and are away to seventh-placed Colyton on Easter Monday. Hemyock are away to Tipton St John in Division Two on Saturday and need a victory to boost confidence.

Wellington Thirds also have a game at home on Saturday - against Division Seven title favourites Tivvy Park Rangers.
