WELLINGTON have called up Luke Redrup and Scott Drayton for tonight’s derby clash at Chard in Division One of the Toolstation League.
Both were unavailable for Saturday’s home game against Chippenham Park which Wellington won 6-3, scoring four times before half time (see report inside).
Wellington manager Clive Jones has not ruled out changes but is giving tonight’s selection a lot of thought. “Wellington don’t win at Chard very often and I’m aiming to put them right,” said Jones whose side have collected six points in the last eight days. “However we know it’s going to be hard.”
Saturday’s victory has enabled them to keep up the pressure at the top of the table.
Chard have had to rebuild their side after manager Adam Fricker joined Bridport and took a number of players from the South Somerset side with him.
Meanwhile, Wellington’s other senior teams – the Reserves and Thirds – are topping their divisions in the Devon and Exeter League.
The Reserves, who gained a fine 2-0 away win over Willand Rovers Reserves on Saturday, are home to Lyme Regis in Division One this weekend while Wellington Thirds play Sidmouth town Reserves in Division Seven. The Third beat Colyton Reserves in the Devon Intermediate Cup on Saturday.
Wellington’s first team are without a game on Saturday.
n Taunton Saturday Football League, which reduced its divisions from five to four this season because of falling numbers, has been hit by more withdrawals.
Three teams have pulled out already – Sydenham Rangers (Div One), Williton (Div Three) and East Bower (Div Four) who have all been struggling to field sides.
“I’ve never known anything like it in all my 15-odd years with the league,” said fixture secretary Tony Good. “It’s happening to all leagues.”
