TOOLSTATION League premier division side Wellington are arranging pre-season football friendlies despite being in the dark as to when the season will start.
“Obviously we cannot fix up dates but five clubs have agreed to play us – Taunton Town, Axminster Town, Minehead Town, Feniton and Middlezoy Rovers,” Wellington boss Tim Legg said.
“We will still have to have friendlies whether the season starts in August or November. You cannot just start playing league games without any warm-up matches.
“What every player in the country is waiting for is when can we start playing again. And at the moment no-one knows.”
Legg, who took charge of Wellington last October, has been talking to players this week about the new season.
He said: “But again it’s very difficult with so much uncertainty. I’ve got a date for the start of pre-season training – June 22 – but I know this will not happen.
“But you have to do this and try to keep things as normal as you can. We’ve never experienced anything quite like this before.”
Legg has also hinted he may play more regularly this season. He added: “I had injuries last season and was never fully fit,” he said. “I’ve had a lot of time in which to concentrate on my fitness – and I’m in pretty good shape.
“My first job is being manager but I am considering playing more regularly.”
