WELLINGTON Reserves hammered lowly South Zeal United 6-1 at home in the Premier Division of the Devon and Exeter Football League.
It was the Reserves’ second home game of the season and manager Mark Owen was hoping to build on the excellent result last time out.
The Reserves broke the deadlock playing down the slope after only seven minutes when Jack Bryant fired home from close range.
As the first half progressed, Wellington continued to create opportunities but were wasteful, missing several chances to increase their lead.
However, as half-time approached, Wellington finally found a second when Ben Evett struck a shot from the edge of the box which took a slight deflection.
The second half started in much the same way as the first, with Wellington creating chance after chance but unable to add a third.
One notable opportunity fell to Wes Poulsom, who found himself with only the keeper to beat from six yards but was unable to finish.
In the 65th minute, the game took an unfortunate turn when Brandon Detain went down following a challenge, suffering what appeared to be a broken foot.
Owen made three changes, introducing A team players Aiden Trott, Linkoln Nash and Jimmy Groves for their Reserve team debuts.
The final 20 minutes produced a flurry of goals as Ollie Nott and Jack Bryant both found the net to make it 4-0.
South Zeal then pulled a goal back from a free-kick, with the ball being turned home from close range.
Wellington added two more goals through Ollie Ackland, the first from the penalty spot and the second with a fine finish following an excellent team move.
