WELLINGTON, fielding a side well below full-strength, crashed to a 40-5 home defeat against leaders St Austell in Regional Two South West yesterday (Sat).

With so many players unavailable, Wellington never looked like winning against the title favourites.

Wellington were 21 points down when Chris Kitto went over for an unconverted try.

The Cornish side led 28-5 at the interval before adding three more tries in the second half.

It meant St Austell completed a 120-5 double over Wellington who lost 80-0 when the sides met in Cornwall earlier this season.

Surprise result of the day in the division was Chard's 13-10 home victory over second-placed Crediton - a result which strengthened St Austell's bid for the championship.
