WELLINGTON are looking for a big improvement in the weather in the hope of playing title favourites Street at home in the Premier Division of the Toolstation League tonight (Mar 7).
They will also be hoping it is third time lucky after having their last two home games - against Clevedon Town and Melksham Town - called off because of freezing temperatures and snow.
Street are seven points clear at the top of the table and have lost only two league games this season. Wellington boss Clive Jones reckons they are the best side in the division.
“We lost to them 2-1 away earlier this season and it was the most one-sided 2-1 defeat I’ve ever seen,” said Jones. “We scored right at the end and for a minute we had them panicking. They are champions elect and rightly so.”
Wellington go into the matches 14 places below Street but well clear of the relegation zone.”
Goal-scoring Sam Towler misses the game because of a two-match suspension for picking up ten bookings this season.
He would have completed the ban if Wellington’s two home matches last week had not been called off.
Charlie Bridges, a striker signed from Street last month, is also ruled out because of a four-match suspension incurred before he signed for Wellington.
George Sinnott, who joined Wellington from Bridgwater Town last month, is also waiting to make the starting line-up for the first time.
Wellington have an away game against bottom side Longwell Green Sports - also in the league - on Saturday and will have to be aware that their opponents have begun putting some good results together.
