WELLINGTON Wanderers produced an excellent team performance to overcome Minehead 5-3 in Division One of the Under 12 section in the HO Soccer Taunton & District Youth Football League at Court Fields, despite having to contend with unfamiliar wet and slippery conditions.

With heavy rain making the surface difficult to play on, both sides initially struggled to adapt. With passes regularly skidding off the wet grass, first touches became unpredictable and the conditions led to a game of misplaced passes and unforced errors. However, as the match progressed, it was Wellington who adjusted the better, showing composure whenever they managed to get the ball down and play their usual passing football.

Although mistakes were inevitable throughout the game, Wanderers remained on top for long periods and created the better chances. Their willingness to keep playing as a team was rewarded with five well-taken goals, many of which came from excellent passages of play.

Harry G was the star of the afternoon, producing a superb finishing display to score four goals. His composure in front of goal caused Minehead problems throughout the game. Jude N added the other Wellington goal, capping off another impressive performance.

Alongside the goalscorers, the whole squad deserves credit for working hard in difficult conditions, showing determination and resilience from the first whistle to the last.

A huge thank you goes to all of the parents who once again gave up their time to support the team. Whether it was helping to put up and take down the FA Respect barrier, running the line or collecting the many stray balls caused by the wet conditions, their support is greatly appreciated and makes match days possible.

Finally, thank you to the team’s fantastic shirt sponsor, Roadchef, for their continued support of Wellington Wanderers U12s throughout the season.
