WELLINGTON Wanderers AFC Under 11s travelled to Galmington on a wet Saturday morning, eager to continue their development against strong local opposition - and they returned with a positive result.
The opening exchanges were marked by nerves from both sides, with a couple of early mistakes reflecting the slippery conditions following the heavy rain of the previous day. However, once the game settled, Wellington began to impose themselves on the opposition with confidence and composure.
The team linked play superbly, moving the ball quickly and intelligently to stretch the Galmington defence. Slick passing combinations opened up spaces across the pitch, while the pace and direct running from the wide players consistently caused problems for the home side. Several well‑constructed moves showcased the team’s growing understanding of each other’s strengths, and Wellington’s attacking intent was clear.
As the match progressed, Galmington pushed forward in search of a way back into the game. The Wanderers, however, demonstrated tremendous character and resilience. In the final five minutes, the boys were forced to defend resolutely, throwing themselves into tackles and maintaining their shape under pressure from the home team. Their determination ensured that Galmington were unable to find a breakthrough, and Wellington closed out the contest with maturity beyond their years.
It was a performance that highlighted both the technical progress and the battling spirit of this group. The players can be proud of their efforts in what proved to be a comfortable and deserved result.
A huge thank you goes to Roadchef, who are the side’s kit sponsors this season, and R&M Motor, who are the team’s ball sponsors, for their continued support of the team. Also to the parents and supporters who turn up for matches every Saturday, whatever the weather.
