ON A WET and miserable Saturday morning, Wellington Wanderers AFC Under 11s travelled to Bridgwater to face Victoria Park Rangers in what proved to be another impressive display of football by the youngsters against good opposition.
From the first whistle, Wellington showcased the two qualities that define their game - sharp passing and relentless fighting spirit. Their ability to move the ball quickly across the pitch allowed them to dominate play for long spells, while their pace out wide consistently stretched the opposition and created attacking opportunities.
Individual performances stood out across the team, with players showing skill, composure, and determination to counter Victoria Park Rangers’ high press. Yet it was the collective effort, the togetherness and unity, that truly made the difference. Every player in th Wanderers’ teeamcontributed, whether through defensive resilience, midfield control, or attacking flair, and the team spirit shone through in every passage of play.
As the game entered its final ten minutes of play, Wellington briefly lost their rhythm, particularly with their passing, but their cohesion ensured the match was seen out with ease. The boys demonstrated maturity in managing the closing stages, reflecting their growing confidence and development as a squad.
A special thank you goes to the parents and supporters who respected the FA’s ‘Silent Weekend’ guidelines, offering only positive encouragement and allowing coaching and the children’s voices to be heard on the pitch. This is a standard the U11s are showing every weekend. Your support is invaluable and greatly appreciated. Finally, the team extends its gratitude to Roadchef, who are the side’s shirt sponsors this season, and to R&M Motor who sponsor the ball for matches.
Wellington Wanderers Under 11s – teamwork, resilience, and quality football on display once again shines through.
