WELLINGTON Wildcats U11s delivered another spirited performance against a strong Bishops Lydeard side. From the off Wildcats showed real heart, pressing high, working for each other and competing for every ball with great energy.
Their confidence is continually growing week by week and it showed in their togetherness. The defence stayed brave, reading the game and stepped in with some good tackles. In midfield the team fought for every ball while the forwards added pressure to the opposition defence.
The performance was full of determination, progress and resilience - everything you want to see from a young team. There’s so much to be proud of and even more to look forward to. POTM: Izzy C.
Under 15s vs Bishops Lydeard: Wildcats played at home against Bishops Lydeard in a highly competitive game. Lydeard started with intent and opened the scoring within five minutes. Wildcats from the restart worked their way down to the Lydeard end and a bouncing ball fell to Flo N outside the box which she smashed into the top corner to level the game.
Lydeard utilised their wingers to stretch play, gaining a couple of well worked goals. Wildcats fought bravely and played with confidence but couldn’t create any clear cut opportunities. HT: 3-1.
Wildcats controlled large parts of the second half and created some problems for the Lydeard defence but the only time they found the net was from an offside decision. Despite this, the Wildcats carried on attacking with intent although they conceded a fourth, arguably against the run of play. FT: 4-1 to Lydeard which gave them the win to secure the league title, congratulations.
This result follows on from other recent quality performances, and despite the scoreline, the Wildcats can all take great pride in their resilience and determination against a very good team, improving their passing and movement weekly. Under 16s vs Wembdon: In a thrilling top-of-the-table clash, the Wildcats U16s delivered an energetic and committed performance despite a narrow 6–4 defeat to Wembdon. The game burst into life early on, with Wildcats taking a deserved lead through McKayla H, who finished confidently from a brilliantly worked corner routine.
The early goal lifted the team, and they continued to apply pressure with sharp passing and positive movement. Wembdon responded with sustained attacking play, edging ahead as the half progressed, but the Wildcats refused to let the game slip. Emilia S struck twice with two composed, well-taken goals that showcased her awareness and finishing ability, keeping the contest finely balanced.
Lola H added another for the Wildcats with a determined run and finish, ensuring the match remained competitive right until the final whistle.
In a match filled with attacking quality, goalkeeper Jasmine S produced several outstanding saves, keeping Wildcats within touching distance during key moments. Erin C earned the well-deserved Player of the Day award for her work rate, determination, and consistent influence across the pitch. Although the result didn’t go their way, the Wildcats’ spirit, teamwork, and attacking play were clear positives.
Meanwhile, Wellington Under 11s play away to Street on Sunday, December 6, while Wellington Wildcats Under 12s are home to Martock Rovers (10.30a.m.).
