WELLINGTON Wildcats have been back in action in the Somerset Girls Football League - and all their teams have opened the season with some fine performances on pitches which have not been conducive to flowing football because of the hard grounds.

The Wildcats marked their first ever fixture in the Under 11 South section of the league with a fantastic victory over North Curry.

Full of energy and determination, they pressed high, passed with confidence, and quickly found the breakthrough. Every player contributed, with solid defending, clever runs, and composed finishing. Debutants settled in well, while the whole team impressed coaches and supporters with both skill and sportsmanship. It was the perfect beginning to their league journey, giving the squad belief for the season ahead. Player of the Match: Eleri D.

U12s vs Ilminster. The U12s delivered a dominant 6–0 home win. Emilia S opened the scoring from Millie G’s clever pass, before Hetty H doubled the lead. In the second half, Maria G struck twice, including a thunderous finish, while Sara M blasted home from a corner. Maria completed her hat-trick late on, set up by Lola R’s smart throw-in. A superb team performance showcased both attacking power and defensive strength. Player of the Match: Maja G.

U13s vs Paulton Rovers. In their first 11-a-side match, the U13s showed great resilience in a 3–2 away victory. Bella W put Wildcats ahead before Paulton equalised from the spot. After the break, the hosts went 2–1 up, but Wildcats fought back: Bella forced the equaliser after rattling the bar, before Mary H smashed home the late winner from a corner. Debutants Alexis M and Poppy G impressed in a spirited team display. Player of the Match: Bella W.

U14s vs Wessex Youth. The U14s showed progress despite a 4–0 defeat away to Wessex. They began strongly, creating early chances, but Wessex struck first and added three more after the break, including one soon after a penalty shout for Ruby A was waved away. Keeper Alisha J made fine saves, while the team’s organisation and intent marked a clear improvement from last season. Player of the Match: Chloe P.

U15s vs Midsomer Norton. The U15s earned a hard-fought 5–2 win. Goals from Lleya T, Faith NH (direct from a corner), and Kacie W built a 3–0 lead, before Norton fought back to 3–2. Wildcats’ substitutes injected fresh energy, with Lleya adding her second and Faith sealing the result. Sophie W impressed in goal, while captain Jess B and Isla C held firm in defence. U16s vs Minehead. The U16s gained a stunning 9–3 victory. Despite conceding early, they stormed ahead through Emilia S’s six-goal masterclass, two from Orlaith C, and one from Lola H. The defence stayed organised, and Jasmine S made a superb save to keep momentum. Debutants Darcey B, McKayla H, and Emilia S all settled quickly, capping a confident all-round display.
