MINEHEAD Second XI travelled to play against Wiveliscombe in the third division of the Somerset Cricket League where, at the end of a close match, it was the visitors who ran out the winners by six runs.

After being put into bat Minehead lost Oli Ahern cheaply after which Braden Taylor joined Ian Buchanan who took the total onto 57 before Buchanan was out for 27.

Andrew Stevens made 10 before departing with the total on 82 which brought Henry Murrell into to join Taylor. The fourth wicket pair added 51 together before Taylor was stumped by Neal Gliddon off Charlie Thorne for 47 which came off 74 balls.

Murrell stayed at the crease until the end of the innings by which time he had seen the total onto 225 for seven, having played what turned out to be a match winning innings of 87 not out which came from 68 deliveries and included eight 4s and two 6s.

Pick of the bowlers for the home side was Charlie Thorne who ended with three for 45 from his seven overs while Sam Milsom claimed two for 23.

When the hosts replied Rob Spiers accounted for one of the openers with the total on 21 after which Thorne (13) and Connor Ashworth added 53 together before Thorne was out for 13.

Three further wickets tumbled making Wivey 90 for five before Elliott Adu Darko came out to the middle. The new batter shared several partnerships, the best of which was 68 for the ninth wicket with Johnny Farrant who made 19.

Adu Darko remained until the end of the innings by which time he had scored an unbeaten 79 off 58 balls with 13 fours and a 6, but despite his efforts Wivey fell six runs short.

Connor Paterson took three for 16 from eight overs.
