JOHN Byrne won the John Stevens Memorial Cup at Oake Manor Golf Club on Saturday. John scored an excellent nett 64, which was narrowly ahead of second placed Wayne Winmill who scored nett 65 with Tim Gamlin third on nett 66.

John Stevens was a former member of the club and an ex-first team footballer with Wellington who died after a long illness at the age of only 59.

The first three were all in division 2 while in division 1 Steve Davies was first with nett 67, Harry Forknall was second with nett 69, which included a hole in one on the 192 yards par 3 14th hole, his second hole in one in the past two weeks. It is the dream of all golfers, although many never achieved the feat despite playing for much of their lives. Oliver Nott was third, also with nett 69.

Kathryn Salway won the ladies Saturday Medal, scoring nett 69 with Jill Loader in second place with nett 71 while Karen Potter came third with nett 72.

Andy Brown scored an incredible 48 points to win the Seniors Order of Merit Stableford Competition on Monday. Robert Davies was second with 41 points while third in division 2 was Terry Brown with 39 points. Richard Crouch won division 1 with 39 points with David Wheeler coming second, also with 39 points, while Michael Robbins was third with 38 points.

Alison Harman won the Ladies Tuesday Medal Competition, coming first in division 1 with nett 69, second was Shane Bordier with nett 70 while Liz How was third with nett 71. Judy Phripp won division 2, scoring nett 70, with Gill Hadley in second place with nett 72 and Ros Shepherd third, also with nett 72.
