WELLINGTON will be making ‘every effort possible’ to play their first game of the season against Yeovil in the Somerset Division of the West of England Premier Cricket League at the Playing Field tomorrow (Sat) (12.30).
The club’s pre-season was a washout and a number of games have been postponed or cancelled because of the bad weather.
Wellington groundsman Des Campbell said: "It’s been a nightmare. It’s the wettest April and May I’ve known.
“Unfortunately, the first team travelled to Chard last Saturday, leaving at ten in the morning and the players had to hang around there until the umpires eventually called off the game.
“It was very disappointing after all the pre-season friendlies were cancelled. Of course, there’s nothing we can do about it. We’re just hoping the game against Yeovil will go ahead.”
Hopefully, and weather permitting, Wellington will include new Sri Lankan left-arm spinner Sandaken Pathiranan in their side.
Aaron Campbell will lead Wellington into action for the sixth successive season.
