WELLINGTON Ladies Skittles League have ‘nothing planned’ until Government guidelines on pubs and clubs are much clearer.

The league still had five weeks of league matches to play when it was brought to an end in mid-March by Covid-19.

Secretary Jo Luckhurst said: “I can’t see those games ever being played. We need to know when we can play before we decide what to do. At the moment social distancing is the big problem. We will have to arrange some sort of meeting of teams when we know more.”

When the league was suspended, Split Pins were topping the table with 44 points, with All Blacks second with 43 points, both teams having played 23 games.

Land Girls were third, also with 43 points, but with a game in hand on the two teams above them, while Water Babies and Jolly Blues were also still in with a chance of winning the title.

Secretary Ollie Risdon thinks the Blackdown Hills Skittles League might start playing games in ‘November-ish’ with a shortened league programme. “I don’t think we will be discussing anything until the pubs have been open for a month,” he said. “We’ll then have some idea how to play it.”

The Wellington Ex-Services Skittles League’s management committee met outdoors recently and decided to try to complete last season’s singles competition and to play the remaining league matches.
