TAUNTON Racecourse are staging the first meeting of 2017 today (Jan 11).

The six race card contains two Class Three events and prize money of £42,500, writes Richard Walsh.

First to post at 1.05pm is the Broadway and Horton Cricket Club Maiden Hurdle race over three miles, the longest of the day.

The most valuable race on the card is the Bathwick Tyres Handicap Steeple Chase (Class 3) over two miles seven furlongs at 2.05pm which has a total prize fund of £13,000.

Half an hour later the second Class 3 event, the Bathwick Tyres Handicap Hurdle over two miles and three furlongs, goes to post at 2.35pm, with £10,000 up for grabs

The Geoffrey Bosley ‘Tally Ho’ Open Hunter’s Steeple Chase also over two miles seven at 3.05pm is likely to attract a large interest from the local point to point fraternity.
