WELLINGTON’S Sri Lankan cricket star Sandaken Pathirara will not be returning to play for the club this summer.
Chairman Mark Salter says: “Indy will not be returning this season. We are currently looking for an overseas player to fill the role but as you can appreciate his are difficult boots to fill.’
Wellington enjoyed a fantastic 2023, winning the Somerset Division of the West of England Premier League without losing a game.
They finished their league programme in style with a 136-run home win over Taunton. It meant they went through the summer winning all 16 of their matches - their two other scheduled games being cancelled because of bad weather.
While it was a brilliant team effort, ‘Indy’ was a revelation and Wellington had been hoping he might return.
