FORMER player and outgoing treasurer Matt Colman is the new president of Wellington Rugby Club. He was elected at the club’s annual meeting on Friday and takes over from Greg Dyke who has stepped down.

Matt’s brother Ash is the new secretary of the club, replacing Paul Smith.

Meanwhile, Wellington have finally completed their pre-season schedule of games - but it has not been easy.

The Somerset club have now arranged three warm-up fixtures - home v Welsh side Abercarn on Saturday, August 22, home v Taunton Thirds on Saturday, August 18 (mostly 2nd XV players involved), and will visit North Petherton on Thursday, August 26.

“We’ve found it difficult to arrange pre-season games for some reason,” said Wellington coach Allyn Chetland.

Wellington, who won the Cornwall and Devon League and Somerset Vase last season, play their first match in Western Counties West at home to Chard on Saturday, September 1.

The Wellington club held a ‘Thank You’ lunch on Sunday for all those who support and sponsor the club.
