Wellington Rugby Club have reappointed former England and Bath international Graham Dawe as head coach for next season.
Davies was brought in by Wellington last June following the club’s relegation from Western Counties West.
He joined Wellington last June following his long-time friendship with ex-Bath and Somerset prop Richard Lee who was born in the town.
During his first season in charge, Wellington were almost unbeatable and ended the winter with 25 successive wins.
Meanwhile, Wellington cannot put a foot wrong these days, even when on tour last week. After winning the Cornwall and Devon League and the Somerset Vase, they went to Majorca to celebrate and came back with more silverware.
They played in a beach rugby tournament and won the Shield event. “We lost the first match because we’d never played the game before,” said club coach Allyn Chetland. “But once we’d got the hang of it we beat two local sides - one former winners - to win the Shield.”
Wellington’s success this season has been put down in no small measure to the coaching of Davies.
“He has had an immense impact,” added Chetland. “His knowledge of the game has been invaluable - both for players and the club’s coaches.”
Wellington trained on Mondays and Wednesday this season and Chetland says this will be up for discussion in the next couple of weeks because some players want different days.
“You can see both sides,”added Chetland. “By training on Wednesday you have more time to rest before games. We had to change training nights in the winter anyway because of the bad weather. We were able to use Wellington School but only on Thursdays.”
