WELLINGTON go into Saturday’s rugby match at home to struggling Torrington with a one-point lead at the top of the Cornwall and Devon League (2.15), writes Barry Knott.
It is the first time this season they have headed the table and they must now be regarded as firm favourites to win the championship.
But Wellington coach Allyn Chetland has warned: “We must keep our feet firmly on the ground and take each game as it comes.
“Some people may think we’re favourites but we have to keep the momentum going.”
Wellington stretched their unbeaten run to 14 matches - going back to mid-September - with a 64-7 home win over Plymouth Argaum over the weekend.
“It was a pleasing win and we scored some really good tries,” added Chetland. “But we lacked a bit of accuracy at times. However, a 60-points win is still very good in anybody’s terms.”
Wellington will be without their Somerset Under 20 second row forward Regan Walker for the next three weeks. He damaged his ankle at work and will be out for three weeks.
Former skipper and No 8 MickyNorman is also out for the rest of the season with a groin injury which may require surgery.
