WELLINGTON will be without young centre and fly half Paddy Jarman for the rest of the rugby season.

Jarman, who captained the side earlier this season in the absence of player-coach Matt Parsons and skipper MIcky Norman when they were sidelined through injury.

Jarman, who is in only his second season as a senior player, has damaged both his shoulders.

“He had a problem with one of his shoulders last season – it’s a recurring problem,” said Parsons last night.

Wellington, whose two sides are without a game this coming weekend, have moved up to tenth in Western Counties North following their thrilling 15-14 home win over fifth-placed Burnham on Sea on Saturday. It was a win achieved without at least five regulars, included Ben Gamblin, Dan Lee and Neville Pitman who were at a farmers’ convention.

However, Wellington had to come from behind again as they chalked up their third successive victory. “Burnham are a quality side and ran Matson close two weeks ago,” added Parsons whose kicking has been crucial in recent matches.

“The lads have really shown character in these last three matches. Obviously we need to stop giving sides points in the first half of matches.

“We were 14-0 down against Burnham before we began fighting back. You cannot do that against every side. But we’ve nothing to fear if we keep playing the way we are.

“I thought the lads’ tackling was amazing in the second half. But we’ve got to stop giving away two scores before we start playing.

“I think we will benefit from the break because one or two of us are carrying knocks and bruises. It gives us a little time to get over these and to reflect on recent displays.”

Wiveliscombe play one of their catch-up matches when they meet Minehead Barbarians at home in Somerset Premier on Saturday.

The Babas have endured a poor season but did manage to beat Stothert & Pitt last weekend.
