WELLINGTON will be looking to extend their winning run to 18 rugby matches when they play away to Pirates Amateurs in the Cornwall and Devon League on Sat- urday.

Having beaten the Pirates 94-7 at home earlier this season, leaders Wellington would fully expect to complete the season’s double over their rivals.

Wellington maintained their one- point lead at the top of the table after beating bottom side Wessex 50-0 away over the weekend.

“We were not sure when we arrived whether the game would be played,” said Wellington coach Allyn Chetland. “The pitch was sticky and wet and there was a pitch inspection before the game was given the go-ahead.”

The match against Pirates will be Wellington’s last away league game of the season, the final four all being at home.

“The championship is very much for us to win,” added Chetland. “But we must approach every game in the same way and not take anything

for granted.”

Centre or winger Chris Batts is unavailable while there is a doubt over second row Cam Venn who has a leg injury and also may have to work.

Wellington’s last four home games are against Bude (5th), Hayle (12th), Honiton (4th) and Torring- ton (13th).

Wiveliscombe, who have an eight-point lead at the top of Som- erset Premier following their 61-0 home win over Stothert and Pitt on Saturday, are home to fifth-placed Weston super Mare 2nd XV.

One worry for Wiveliscombe is that Weston’s first team have no game and they could strengthen their side.

Wellington 2nd XV are home on Saturday to Keynsham in Somerset One while Wiveliscombe 2nd XV have no game.

Wellington’s Somerset Vase semi-final against Somerset Pre- mier outfit Gordano could be played on three different dates - Wednesday, April 11; Thursday, April 12; or Sunday, April 15, the venue still to be decided.
