WELLINGTON play their last two matches in Western Counties North knowing they are definitely safe from relegation even though they lost their 15th match of the season - at Chew Valley last Saturday.

Their 18-7 defeat mirrored much of this season’s displays - they were always in with a chance but suffered injuries which effectively prevented them playing at their best.

Two of their players ended up in hospital - player-coach Matt Parsons (dislocated figure) and Sam John (torn ear).

"We seem to have had a number of games like this," said Parsons who will miss the last two games - both at home - against Stroud on Saturday and Avon the following weekend as will John. Both kick off at 3.00

"We certainly have not had the rub of the green, that’s for sure."

Meanwhile, Parsons says he would like to carry on as player-coach but the club have not given him an answer.

"They have discussed the playing budget for next season and their options," he added.

Stroud are lying third in the table while Avon are just below Wellington in the table.

Wiveliscombe, who are lying fourth in Somerset Premier following seven wins from their last eight games, face their toughest match of the season when they play away to top of the table Yatton who have have won 22 of their 24 fixtures this season.

"This will be a real tester for us," said Wivey correspondent Roger Bellamy. "Our strength this year has been able to field a settled side."

Wellington 2nd XV, who put up a spirited fight before losing to second-placed Crewkerne in Somerset One over the weekend, are away to Imperial who are just above them in the table.

Wiveliscombe 2nd XV are home to Morganians 2nd XV in Somerset Two South.
