WELLINGTON’S caretaker coach Allyn Chetland says it would have been good if his side had a rugby fixture in Western Counties West this weekend.

Wellington were impressive in their 20-14 home win over fourth-placed Truro on Saturday and Chetland said: “It would have been nice if we could have kept the momentum going.

“The result against Truro was obviously pleasing but the performance was more so. The defence was superb in the opening five minutes and this set the tone for the match.

“In the end we could have won by a bigger margin. We looked dangerous every time we had the ball.

“We will be training hard this week. The boys were buzzing during the game – and after it.

“This win has given the boys confidence. It shows that we can not only compete with the best sides in this division but also beat them.”

Wellington 2nd XV, who won their derby match 13-5 against Wyvern in Somerset One on Saturday, have a rearranged home game against Chew Valley.

Wiveliscombe lst XV also have a match in Somerset Premier on Saturday – at home to Bridgwater & Albion who cried off

on the day when the sides

were due to play each other 11 days ago.

It was a frosty day but Wiveliscombe and the match officials were prepared to play but Albion were not, despite making the trip to The Rec.

Wiveliscombe 2nd XV also play at home to Albion’s 2nd XV in Somerset Two South.
