HUNDREDS of families turned out to watch a spectacular display of fireworks at Wellington Rugby Club last Saturday evening.

“It was a fantastic show,” said club secretary Ashley Colman afterwards. “However, it could have been so different if the rain had not stopped an hour before the start.

“It was the first show to be held following the retirement of Neil Bache and we used an outside company who were terrific. We will definitely be staging it again next year.

“Financially, we think we managed to break even. However, the whole purpose of the event, held for the first time in three years, was for the community to enjoy, not to make a profit.

“The club would also like to thank Wellington Town Council for its financial support this year. They would have been pleased with the response by all who attended.”

Most sections of the club were involved in some way in staging the event - from security to taking the money at the gate.
