CHRIS Kitto and Ash Harney have been named joint winners of Wellington Rugby Club’s Player of the Year award. Winners of the club trophies for the past season were disclosed at a successful pig roast at the Athletic Ground last Saturday.

The 2nd XV Player of the Year was skipper Andrew Bellamy while the Most Improved Player winner was Tom Crossby. Other awards included: Best Newcomer Will Hodgson; Committee Player of the Year The lst XV; Clubman of the Year, groundsman Keith Hazeldine.

A special award and a bottle of gin went to 1st XV captain for the past three seasons Paddy Jarman who has stepped down. The pig roast attracted a good crowd during the afternoon and evening.

Wellington coach Allyn Chetland said: “It was a good chance for people to get together but mindful of social distancing.”

He also revealed that the players were able to do more at training than before but two more phases would need to be completed before rugby would return. One-to-one tackling and unopposed line outs are now allowed.
