WELLINGTON and Wiveliscombe, who fought out a Boxing Day rugby derby before a record crowd, will both be back in action this coming Saturday, writes Barry Knott.

Wellington, who beat Wiveliscombe 32-15 at the Athletic Ground, will be chasing the season’s double when they play away to Falmouth in their longest trip of the season in Western Counties West.

“I thought we played really well against Wivey and could have scored more tries,” said Wellington coach Allyn Chetland.

Looking ahead to the Falmouth game he added: “They are always a well-organised side and they are always difficult to beat on their own patch, which is the case with all Cornish sides.

“Trying to win away games is very difficult in this league. We beat Falmouth 27-15 at home in mid-September.”

Wellington are lying fourth in the table and need to beat eighth-placed Falmouth to maintain the pressure at the top of the table.

Wiveliscombe, who felt they did not play as well as they should have done against Wellington, go into Saturday’s away game against Old Redcliffians 13 points clear of the field in Somerset Premier. They have lost only one league game and will also be looking to complete the double over their rivals, having won 31-27 against Old Reds in a tough home game in September.

Wellington 2nd XV are home to their Keynsham counterparts in Somerset One while Wiveliscombe 2nd XV are home to Chard 2nd XV in Somerset Two South.
