ALTHOUGH they have moved out of the relegation zone, Wellington know they still have plenty of work to do to avoid the drop in Western Counties North.

In the past fortnight Wellington have beaten fellow strugglers Gordano and Barts Rugby and moved up to 11th in the table, two points clear of third from bottom Bristol Harlequins.

“Those two wins have taken the pressure off us – at least for the time being,” said player-coach Matt Parsons who scored all the points in the 14-8 home win over Barts over the weekend.

“We knew it was going to be a tight game and we did not play as well as we can.

“But we showed plenty of character and I cannot knock the boys for effort.

“It was a nice, dry day but, unfortunately, we could not hold on to the ball.”

Wellington have another home game in the league on Saturday when they play Burnham on Sea and will be seeking revenge for an away defeat earlier this season.

“We lost narrowly up there and I expect it to be another tight game," added Parsons.

“We’re probably at the position we would want to be following two wins. We are now looking to finish tenth.

“Paddy Jarman will miss the game with a shoulder injury and three other lads are unavailable.”

Wellington 2nd XV will be looking to follow up their 32-7 home win over Keynsham with another good display tomorrow, but it will be tough away to Somerset One leaders Bridgwater and Albion 2nd XV who have won all 18 of their matches this season.

Wiveliscombe, who put 60 points past Nailsea & Backwell over the weekend, play away to Tor in Somerset Premier while Wivey’s second string are away to Winscombe in Somerset Two South.
