WELLINGTON Rugby Club have ruled out paying players following the lst XV’s promotion to South West One (W) next season.
“We’re an amateur club and we always will be,” said coach Allyn Chetland. “We will never go down the road of paying players.”
Wellington will be playing at their highest ever level next season after winning Western Counties West under head coach Graham Dawe.
Dawe has been in charge for the past three seasons and in that time Wellington have won the Cornwall & Devon League and finished third and first in Western Counties West.
“Graham has been a tremendous influence on the side,” said Chetland. “He has brought different ideas to the club and the players have responded. They really look up to him.
“Also backs coach Nick Sestarat joined the club at the start of the season in what was a major boost for Wellington. The ex-Exeter Chiefs player’s experience, tactical knowledge and expertise was a huge contributing factor in the club’s success this season.”
